Reviews of Blogs and People I Follow (Part 3)
For Part 3 of marketing resources for authors, I’m reviewing the people I follow.
The Savvy Book Marketer (Dana Lynn Smith) I follow Dana’s newsletter and her twitter account. There is a fair bit of overlap between the twitter, the emails, and the newsletter. However, the information is usually informative, so I don’t mind the overlap.
The marketing information is almost exclusively designed with a non-fiction, print market in mind. However, there are a number of tips and hints that are general enough to be adapted to the genre fiction market, including people who are e-published only.
Worth following. And, you get a free ebook when you sign up for the newsletter that’s good for tech unsavvy.
http://twitter.com/FrugalBookPromo Interesting enough, I wasn’t happy with the “Frugal Book” that I purchased (formatting was awful and difficult to navigate) yet I enjoy following the Twitter posts. Oftentimes, there are links to authors who are “doing it right.” Not enough fiction focus for my tastes, but I can usually glean ideas.
Author Maria Zannini’s Killer Campaigns Maria is a FICTION author. While she doesn’t actively add to the killer campaigns anymore, she has some valuable and field-tested information. Again, she’s a FICTION author. Go and read all 43 entries. Now. Then, buy her books.
A Newbie’s Guide to Publishing J.A. Konrath has been twisting the publishing world’s panties for a bit now, blogging about his move from being a midlist author of a large publisher to self-publishing in ebook form only. While reading his blog will make you feel like you’ll be making $200k before the end of the year, it does have some useful marketing information from his early days.
His current ebook marketing is pretty much that he’s a bigger name, has a huge backlist, and that his blog is popular, so ignore all that. Instead, go to the older posts and see what he did. You can even download a 1100 page bible of his blog posts, including a huge section of marketing, from his website for free.
Thanks for dropping by! I hope the marketing blitz has been helpful!
